A life shaped by disciplined practice

Dr. Colin Koh, DBA, PhD, is the Founder of QISYNC and a lifelong practitioner, teacher and advocate of Tai Chi, Qigong, meditation and practical mind–body development. Known to many students as Shifu Colin Koh, he brings together more than five decades of disciplined practice, competition, teaching and professional leadership. His work is grounded in the conviction that traditional principles become most valuable when they are translated into practical habits for health, resilience, self-awareness and purposeful living.

In 1981, Dr. Koh won the Singapore National Tai Chi Tui Shou Championship, a milestone that reflects both technical skill and the deeper qualities of calmness, sensitivity, timing and adaptability. During the 1980s, he was among the pioneering Tai Chi instructors serving Singapore’s growing public interest in the art. He taught through community institutions including River Valley Community Centre, Rochor Community Centre and Serangoon Community Centre, and was part of the wider teaching contribution associated with SIN PIN TAI CHI PHYSICAL CULTURAL SOCIETY when the People’s Association sought qualified instructors for community programmes.

Teaching across organisations and communities

Over the years, Dr. Koh has taught and facilitated programmes for a wide range of organisations and audiences. These include SIA Group, Eagle Services, AIA, Daimler Group (Mercedes-Benz), Schindler Group, Alexandra Hospital and Thye Hwa Kuan Hospital, as well as Raffles teachers and staff and numerous SME events. His community and public engagements have included River Valley CC, Rochor CC, Serangoon CC and the annual Leng Kee Bao Staff event. Internationally, he has conducted wellness activities at the Governor’s residence in Palembang, Indonesia, engaging the Governor’s wife and participants through accessible, interactive applications of Tai Chi principles.

His teaching is experiential and inclusive. Participants are guided to explore posture, balance, breathing, attention, intention and interpersonal sensitivity through simple movements and partner exercises. Rather than treating Tai Chi as a performance alone, Dr. Koh helps people recognise how its principles can support steadier decision-making, healthier movement, emotional regulation, communication and cooperation.

Professional leadership and academic foundation

Dr. Koh’s perspective is also shaped by more than forty years of experience in aerospace engineering, aircraft maintenance, operations, management, adult education, training and organisational leadership. A licensed aircraft maintenance engineer, he has served as General Manager of Air Transport Training College and has contributed to cybersecurity compliance consulting, governance, quality and risk. He has held professional leadership roles including Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Singapore Professional Centre and President of the Continuing Professional Development Association.

His academic qualifications span business administration, action learning, industrial and organisational psychology, management, international business, workplace learning and aerospace operations. They include a Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Information Technology and Management in Poland; a Doctor of Philosophy from Revans University (IMCA); an Executive Master of Science in Industrial and Organisational Psychology from Baruch College, City University of New York; a Master of Management from the University of Canberra; a Master of International Business from the University of Technology Sydney; and a Bachelor of Technology in Aerospace Operations with Distinction from the University of Technology Sydney, completed in 1998. He also holds the Graduate Certificate in Workplace Learning, jointly issued by the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL), which qualifies him to practise as a workplace learning consultant with IAL.

The QISYNC approach

Through QISYNC, Dr. Koh distils the principles of Tai Chi, Qigong and meditation into a practical mind–body system for contemporary life. QISYNC integrates movement, breath, mind, attention and intention so that people can develop greater internal coherence and carry that steadiness into work, relationships, learning and service. His central message is simple: the true measure of practice is not only how well a form is performed, but how wisely its principles are lived.

QISYNC

A practical pathway for synchronising body, breath, mind, attention and intention—within ourselves and in the way we engage the world.

Chinese Biography

University of Information Technology and Management 工商管理博士(DBA);Revans University(IMCA)哲学博士(PhD);纽约市立大学 Baruch College 工业与组织心理学行政理学硕士;University of Canberra 管理学硕士;University of Technology Sydney 国际商务硕士;以及于 1998 年以优异成绩取得的 University of Technology Sydney 航空营运科技学士。
